RESEARCH

Research Goal: My research interest is to fundamentally understand the structure and properties of pristine and functionalized nano-materials, nano-structured surfaces and develop new concepts of applying them in sensor, microfluidic and energy applications. My group is involved in producing variety of nanoscale structures (such as ultrathin crabon film, carbon nanotubes, graphene, zinc oxide) using techniques such as chemical vapor deposition and physical vapour deposition. They have remarkable thermal, electrical, optical, surface and mechanical properties. Moreover, it is essential to study surface and tribological properties of these novel nanomaterials for their successful use in sensor, energy and electronic devices.

Mainly I am working on two research areas, advanced materials and microfluidics. I have highlighted below with main sub areas.

I. Advanced Materials: synthesis, characterization and applications
• Graphene (Sensor, electrode, membrane and composite)
• Nanomaterials and thin film Characterizations (SEM, TEM, AFM, XPS, XRD, Profilometer, Raman Spectroscopy and FTIR, etc)
• Surface chemistry vs. tribology
• Microscopic characterisation of Biomolecules
II. Microfluidics and Biosensors
• Microfluidic device fabrication
• Capillary flow dynamics
• Biosensors/Immunosensors (Molecular Diagnostics)
• Micro-particle mixing and separation

Teaching Interest and Experience

Brief Teaching Philosophy:
Teaching is a very demanding profession. It’s a teacher and student relationship. Both the teacher and student get feedback from each other and that will carry the teaching process in a positive direction. The students feed back is their response in understanding the subject. The teachers feedback is praising and encouraging and assessing the improvement of students towards their prospective goals. Different subject has different policies and protocol. Scientific learning should be more evidence base. They should maintain the dignity of students and in return they will earn the respect and trust of students. Teaching is the process of imparting knowledge to the students in a systematic and organised manner. The process and system of teaching should be made up to date every now and then according to the demand of modern age.
